Talking about Using Quilting Batting and Making Cloth Doll Animals

This is Dorky Raccoon he is made from quilting batting but what makes him so unusual is the quilting batting is stained so that he looks like a primitive cloth doll animal raccoon.
The patten for the raccoon is a vintage pattern from the sixties'.
I took the quilting batting and stained each cut out piece with gray acrylic pain, walnut stain and a bit of black acrylic paint.
I used water to run the paints together by using a very wet sponge paint brush, sort of like doing a wash onto the quilting batting.
Then I baked all the pieces in my oven at 200 degrees; laying all pieces on large cookie sheets covered with tin foil.
The result was an interesting mixture of colors and aging, I also used some cotton scraps of fabric for the face and buttons for eyes along with black cotton floss to do some added facial features.
Dorky stands about 20 inches and is filled with fiber fill there is a cotton fabric ribbon around his neck for that final touch.
The quilting batting held up and really gives an interesting looking when one is staining or doing a type of wash, then cooking in the oven seals in the colors and the paints and stains dry in a fun and unusual way.

Ride on the Beach, doing nothing on a Saturday

Hey everyone, I just had to share today's ride on the beach and what we came across, I really felt bad for the gentleman who owned the Hummer! It was nice the other man in Jeep was trying to help.
I just thought it was neat I can also take video with the camera!
It was a beautiful day on the Oregon and people, lots people were out clamming for Razor clams! YUM!

Crochet Rag rug and Tiny Wooden Things

This is another crochet rag rug that measures 20x20 using the bulky yarn. In the rug I have used a single stitch and skipped a stitch using my 10 crochet hook, along with doing a double stitch.
I wanted to give this rug a little different look so it was a edging by using those stitches I mentioned. It is a small rug but still quite decorative crochet rag rug from yarn. I really like the contrasting yarns, a black center, and a variety of color on the outside, it gives the rug a bit of antique look.



Then I had these cute wooden items and decided to make the dog and cat into primitive magnets. There is also cute small rabbit with wheels that could have been used as toys, to use a decorative primitives. I have stained them with a walnut stain and used a tiny amount of crackle, next I took a gray paint and cover the pieces and wiped them with a cloth and it gave them a nice old aged look.
I added a cloth bow to the cat for a small finishing touch, adding the gray paint and rubbing and wiping off really gave the cat, dog, and rabbits more of a beat up look, I think.

What a wonderful gift my sweet hubby gave me! a new camera! hooray! yes I am quite excited about it.
He went and got me a Cannon Power Shot it is just..... well there are no words to express how sweet it was of him to do this.
Anyway I have been playing with it over the weekend and I finished this rug a few weeks ago and wow what a difference the camera makes so I took more pictures of the little hand bag/purse and of those little baskets can one see the difference 4x optical zoom makes.

Meat Loaf Pie

Good morning to everyone;
Yes it is still cold on the Oregon coast but we will warm up a little bit later on today. Anyway last night I came up with this idea on what to do with hamburger and now I thought I would share it with you.
I call this meat loaf pie:
I used 2 pounds of ground round, as I have a teen boy. But you can use more or less
Mix the meat in a large bowl adding chopped onion, 1 small can of tomato soup, small can of mushrooms, seasoning salt, 2 eggs, 2-3 cups of Italian crushed bread crumbs or your choice of either oat meal, crushed crackers, other kinds of seasoned bread crumbs.
Add a little water and mix all together.
Add to to a large frying pan, pie pan if doing a smaller amount, kind of pat and make the meat form all together.
Now for the second part:
boil up some small red potatoes or potatoes that you like, another way can be to use instant potatoes especially the kind of instant potatoes that now come in the individual packets make by Idaho potatoes, those packets come in many varieties.
Make up the potatoes as you would normally and then top on top of the meat in your frying pan or pie pan. Smooth the potatoes all over the top covering the meat completely.
Bake in an oven 350 until done and until the potatoes turn a golden brown and look crispy at the edges. I would like to mention be sure to use a very lean ground beef when doing this as not to have all that grease.
One other thing you could do also is add a bit of your favorite shredded cheese at the last seconds before done and have melted cheese on those potatoes make this even more yummy.

Crazy Old Man Winter is Coming through Again

Well this morning had to be another wild winter day, freezing rain, black ice, snow and now some sunshine. The day started off pretty interesting as it was a very cool 25 at the house and it had rained last night so the deck was extremely dangerous for walking on. The next fun thing was trying to deice the doors on my pickup to take my son to his early morning class. The doors were quite frozen shut do to the cold and rain. Yup the roads had plenty of black ice and my driving was inching like a turtle or so my son called it. Actually the truck did quite well but the fat tires and the 4 wheel drive helped a little.
After I arrived we discovered school had a 2 hour delay so back we headed, when we got home my daughter came rushing to the door and let us know school was out for the entire day! HOORAY....
As we arrived home it began snowing hard and staying cold brr......
So through out the day it snowed, it rained and rained more and my hubby had to come home because roads were to icy for the Mule train log truck and the logging roads were becoming dangerous with 4 inches of snow developing.
So tonight high winds are expected with snow and cold, but at this very second the sun is shining as I write this at 4:30 Pacific time.
So my entire day was a day of getting nothing done the laundry pile stayed the same the dishes are still in the sink and it actually looks like a hurricane went through my home at the end of this day. Now it is time for me to head off to my online class maybe tomorrow I get lots done, but more snow is expected and the cold is still here but I can imagine getting lots done now can't I dream about a nice clean house, so I will dream.
