Today's Spot Light is on Dilly Dandy a foam paper doll.

Today's spotlight is on a foam paper doll I just finished and is in my store Frankly It's kute Productions.
Dilly Dandy is 11 inches and made from foam, I have added googly eyes, hair is golden cotton embroidery floss and I have done a little painting the rest of the facial features.
I also have made 3 little dresses to go with her from some very nice card stock. In the dress she is wearing there is a little kitten hiding.
I loved paper dolls when I was a little girl and I collecting some of the old time paper dolls. But I also thought it be fun to make my own!
There are other paper dolls in my store and I am always working on new or improving my ideas.
You can also purchase the pattern and instructions to make the paper doll and her clothes or purchase the paper doll and instructions. I think every little girl should have a chance to enjoy a paper doll, what a way to make your imagination come alive. It's also a forgotten art I think.

Spot Light is Harvest Time Frankie Bear

The spot light is on this cute little bear that I created a while back. This is Harvest Time Frankie bear and he is $25.00 or you can can get the pattern and instructions for $7.00
Frankie was created with some cotton flannel and I designed a sun flower and ironed it to his tummy. He is filled with fiber fill and has black button eyes. What I did a little different was to allow there to be a ragged edge all around him by fraying the the flannel a little. His nose is also a small black button and I torn some fall time cotton fabric for a bow. I think is he a a wonderful, colorful 14 inch bear. You can find Frankie Bear in my store http://www.franklykuteproductions.com

Spring Break Ending

Well this Sunday offically ends Spring Break in Oregon and what a crazy week it has been. Snow on the beach and a foot of snow almost in the hills around me. Guess father winter just was not ready to give up yet. Well the Contest in my store will be ending and there is a few more days left to get that crazy guess in. So head to http://www.franklyitskuteproductions.com/click on contests and send me your wildest guess, just have a little fun after all there is no correct answer! I am just looking for that fun wild guess...

As we were driving around its still amazes me the wind storm we had here a while back! We had winds 120 miles and hour for 2 days straight. While driving the devastion reminds me of someone having a bad fit! As if someone walked through waving their arms around and breaking some trees off at the tops as if they were only match box matches and if that were not enough as if they kick over trees by the roots. It's really something to see how mother nature can be....

This was some of those trees that were kicked over by the wind storm and some of the tops were broken right off.

The next picture is where lots and lots of woods were but now its entirely gone...

I think this is one of the worst wind storms I have seen since moving here to the Oregon coast in 1984.

Now onto Spring Break and SNOW.....

An Easy way to make a quick Shepard's Pie

This recipe is very easy and you can add what you like the most....
I will either use a left over roast, be sure to slice it up

Or I like canned roast beef and I will use at least 2 cans.
throw in mixed veggies of your choice..
sometimes I throw green beans, peas, chopped carrots, celery, onions, mushrooms (yummy)
You can buy mixed frozen veggies and toss them and the meat into a greased baking dish or a large cast iron frying pan as I have done. In the picture below is a slice of the Shepard's pie.
Use 2 small cans of beef gravy and about 1/2 cup water mix the veggies, meat all together in a large bowl add the water and gravy mix more, pour into your greased frying pan or baking dish.

Now in another mixing bowl add 2 packets of instant mashed potatoes. What is so fun about this is you can use a variety of different kinds of instant mashed potatoes, I happen to like the instant potatoes that come in single packets.
Mix up the 2 packets just as the directions say.... add
the milk and hot water, butter into your mixing bowl. Mix now spread the potatoes over the beef mixture. Add a slice of butter to the top and bake in the over until the potatoes start to brown just a little. Bake 350 for 20-30 min depending on your oven.

A whril wind of happenings...

Howdy! everyone its been a while and I am sorry about that. This winter was quite rough on my health this year. I have been fighting pneumonia just about all winter! This last bout was my fourth time in getting it. But hopefully Spring is near and I am now feeling much better. I hope everyone had a wonderful EASTER!
Now it's Spring break here in Oregon! my two teens have an entire week off.

I did just finish a 16 inch dog called Pawinston, She is a floppy dog filled with fiber fill and she is made with some really cute cotton fabric. I have also added some blue safety eyes. I love this pattern because you can do so much with it. I have designed cats, dogs, rabbits etc. Out of this one single pattern. There is no limit to creating.

I have also finished another rag rug and will be adding it to the store in the next few days so be sure to check out my store.

My Very Cute Cloth dolls

I have always loved cloth dolls!

I started at very young age making cloth dolls, I was about 12 years of age when I sewed my first cloth doll with my moms help. After that I was hooked!

My favorite cloth is vintage...

I love finding old patterns of days long gone and creating dolls that have not been around for a while. In fact right now I am working a 26 inch cloth doll from 1968. The pattern is a reprint of the pattern but it works....

I look for vintage patterns through ebay, garage sales, second hand stores or any where I can.

I love going into the past, after all where would we all be if there was no past?

One of my favorite dolls that I have made up is a 1928 Gingham doll. What was so interesting was using the gingham for eyes and the face was done by hand with cotton floss.

I used a blue Gingham for the dress, boots and hat. Next I used cotton muslin for the body. The hair is a dark red yarn. I love her because she is a small, but simple doll.

Sometimes I will mix up the patterns of cloth dolls just to give the doll a whole new look....

For instance I might use the pattern of a body from one doll and the head from another pattern. Or just take the pattern and give it an entire new look. I have done so with the picture below. It was to plain, so I took bright colors, different yarn, staining, different legs and got this look.

The legs and arms are from another pattern, I used some wild but colorful yarn for her hair. She is stained with walnut stain, the mouth is done with black cotton floss. It gave the vintage pattern a whole new look!

Sometimes I will not even use a pattern! I will just start cutting with an idea in mind and come up with something like this next doll....

I had some Denim fabric that looked as if it had been bleached out! Cool I thought and I decided it should be this rag cloth doll rabbit. No patterns were used just a lot of imagination! I just began cutting and designed this 18 inch sitting rabbit. I also stained the fabric with walnut stain to help along that old look. His face is done with pink floss and filled with fiber fill!
To me each of my dolls has its own personality! and that for me is all the fun in creating cloth dolls!
I think cloth dolls is a lost art, and so I feel its important to keep imagintation alive as well as the past remembered.
