Finshed Old Red dog

I had some fun with this McCall's pattern, I used some red rayon stretch fabric that was textured bumpy and fur like . I made the body out of this fabric and then I used my wood wax stain to make the dog look stained and old looking. I took the wood wax and a old cloth and rubbed a a dab of wax onto the fabric, the effect came out pretty interesting looking. I filled the dog with fiber fill and sewed blue buttons on for eyes, added the bow which is sewn into the head a bit, finally I used 4 strands of black cotton floss to create the nose.
It was a simple pattern with a new idea to create an aged old red dog, this is not for a small child but for those who are older but still young at heart.

Wallo the Aged old Cat made from Quilting Batting

Good morning, it's another very cold winter day on the Oregon coast brrr...
Wallo is a cat I created a little while back, using quilting batting to make him. I designed the pattern just from my head and cut it all out.





After cutting the batting out; I mixed about a teaspoon of gray acrylic and about 2 cups of warm water. I then put the quilting batting into the bowl of paint and water and I let it soak for a few hours.



I then baked the batting in the oven on warm for a few more hours till the batting was completely dry. I began sewing him and adding cotton fabric patches, button eyes and a little hand embroidery for the facial features. I added just a simple wool scrape of fabric for a tie around his neck. I also did a little extra staining with black acrylic paint and walnut stain. I used a small spray bottle to do this and just let it air dry.



I think he came out pretty interesting using the quilting batting; the batting holds and takes some really wild and unusual looks using different stains and paints. The idea is quilting batting has a whole lot more uses than just a quilt.

What Month is it? Snow On the Beach Again

This weekend was surprising because we got about an inch of snow right down to beaches and I thought it might be fun to share some photos I took when we headed out. You can see its a pretty good storm the tide was very high, so we were not able to drive on the beach.



You can see some of snow on the sand to the beach access, off to the side there is a van that was stuck and abandoned we hope they were able to finally get out.
We went down the access a little more and knew we would not be able to drive on beach.

The tide is almost covering all of what's left of the old ship that wrecked on the beach many years ago.

A primitive Tea Pot and Another Blog

I just finished this really nice ceramic tea pot, and thought I would share with you all what I did to make it look aged. Aged by just playing with acrylic paints and a wood stain.
what I did first was just to paint the tea pot the colors I wanted; I used blues, pinks browns and white.
I did use some old rags to wipe away and re-paint then I let everything dry well adding about 3 coats to crackle. Now let that dry for a couple of days before using the wood wax stain. Add small dabs and wipe downward let dry for a another couple of days. I did add a little sparkle paint but its hard to see in the photo.
I really like how the tea pot came out, of course it can only be for decoration and not actually using. The final touch was to paint on a flat sealer. I have a couple of ceramic pots for plants I am going to work on in the next few days to see if I can make them look as if they are aged.

Before I forget I started another blog, but its all about my 4 wonderful dogs and kitty, and there will be photos and videos just for a bit of fun. Sometimes I will write as the dogs might be thinking or just writing about something fun and adventurous. Howling Down The 4 Doggone Lane

Lunch Meat Bologna Breakfast

This idea for a great breakfast meal came from my hubby; its a Bologna omelet and cinnamon toast. It's a fairly easy recipe and some what economical.

What you will need:

3 eggs
water
Bologna cut up
Whole ripe tomato sliced/diced up
pepper jack cheese
cheddar cheese
onion
salt
pepper

Be sure to add non-stick spray to your frying pan heat on medium heat; mix eggs and about one large tablespoon of water/to about one and 1/2 tablespoon of water to eggs. Swirl the frying pan just to spread egg around evenly, to make omelet. Add cut lunch meat cheeses, salt, pepper and finally add tomatoes lastly. Fold over to finish making omelet. Serve with extra fresh diced tomatoes on top and sprinkle a little cheese.
Toast bread in toaster and a small amount of butter to toast sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
This is a good warm breakfast for anytime or for a Sunday brunch breakfast and what makes it economical is the bologna, it's a good way to use up that left over lunch meat just sitting around.

Talking about Using Quilting Batting and Making Cloth Doll Animals

This is Dorky Raccoon he is made from quilting batting but what makes him so unusual is the quilting batting is stained so that he looks like a primitive cloth doll animal raccoon.
The patten for the raccoon is a vintage pattern from the sixties'.
I took the quilting batting and stained each cut out piece with gray acrylic pain, walnut stain and a bit of black acrylic paint.
I used water to run the paints together by using a very wet sponge paint brush, sort of like doing a wash onto the quilting batting.
Then I baked all the pieces in my oven at 200 degrees; laying all pieces on large cookie sheets covered with tin foil.
The result was an interesting mixture of colors and aging, I also used some cotton scraps of fabric for the face and buttons for eyes along with black cotton floss to do some added facial features.
Dorky stands about 20 inches and is filled with fiber fill there is a cotton fabric ribbon around his neck for that final touch.
The quilting batting held up and really gives an interesting looking when one is staining or doing a type of wash, then cooking in the oven seals in the colors and the paints and stains dry in a fun and unusual way.

Ride on the Beach, doing nothing on a Saturday

Hey everyone, I just had to share today's ride on the beach and what we came across, I really felt bad for the gentleman who owned the Hummer! It was nice the other man in Jeep was trying to help.
I just thought it was neat I can also take video with the camera!
It was a beautiful day on the Oregon and people, lots people were out clamming for Razor clams! YUM!
